AO Alliance Through the Department of Orthopedics and Trauma donates PPEs to the Hospital.
AO Alliance (AOA) Foundation, a Swiss-based non-profit organization dedicated to improving fracture care in low and middle-income countries of the world, donated Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to the University College Hospital on Monday, 24th August 2020.
The donated items, including seventy (70) surgical gowns, thirty (30) reusable operating gowns, five hundred (500) face masks and fifty (50) face shields were presented to the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Jesse Otegbayo through the Organization’s affiliate and Head, Department of Orthopedic and Trauma, UCH, Dr. Michael Okunola.
While making the presentation, Dr. Okunola said: “UCH, being a high volume trauma centre has been selected as a recipient of PPE support project, beneficial to healthcare professionals in AO Alliance- affiliated institutions.”
“Owing to this and the fact that we have faculty members and National surgeon of AO Alliance in the frontline of the COVID-19 battle here in the University College Hospital, we are pleased to receive these PPEs as part of a special support project in the face of the high risk of infectability posed by the virus. We are pleased also present them to the management.” He added.
Otegbayo, in his response, said: “In the face of the greatest battle that our healthcare system has ever fought, I must confess that the Hospital is hinged on the numerous donations that we have received so far.”
Otegbayo also lauded the gesture saying
“I commend the Department of Orthopedics as well as Dr. Ajibola Oladiran, a faculty member of AO Alliance for facilitating this kind donation.”
He affirmed that the PPEs will be used rationally in protecting the hospital’s front liners from the scourge of the virus while appealing to well-meaning organizations and individuals with milk of human kindness to aid the Hospital in this trying period.
