The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has donated medical consumables to the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan. The NCDC strategic stockpile which is the third tranche since the outbreak of the COVID-19 is to serve as a form of support in ameliorating the crippling effect of the pandemic.

Consultant Epidemiologist, Infection Prevention and Control Desk,
Lead, National Rapid Response Team on COVID-19 Outbreak Response support to Oyo State noted that the purpose of the supply is to help prevent healthcare-associated infections by ensuring that healthcare workers in the front line have the necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to work with. He said, “the agency strongly encourages the rational use of PPE based on appropriate risk assessment done by Healthcare workers.”
Ogunniyi also lauded the giant steps the Hospital has been taking in stemming the spread of the disease in the state.

The Chief Medical Director, Prof. Jesse Otegbayo while receiving the items thanked the Director General of the NCDC, Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu.
for supporting the Hospital and also commended the agency’s response to the COVID-19 outbreak in the country.

Similarly, the executive committee of the UCH Senior Staff Recreation Club has given a pass mark to the Hospital management in infection prevention and welfare of frontline workers. This was disclosed by the association’s chairman Mr. Olabode Ajayi when he led the club leadership to donate a sum of fifty thousand Naira (50,000) as support to combat the challenges of the dreaded coronavirus.

Mr. Ajayi also expressed gratitude to the Otegbayo-led administration for placing the welfare of staff and comfort of patients in the front burner and enjoined all staff to contribute their quota to the development of the Hospital.

Prof. Otegbayo, on behalf of the management, lauded the association for its support, saying, “being part of the solution at this critical time and not the problem is worthy of emulation”. He also assured that the money will be put to proper use in the managing, and preventing further spread of the virus.

As at the close of business on Tuesday, 9th June, 2020, there are three active cases of COVID-19 being treated in the hospital.

The University College Hospital, Ibadan has been playing the leading role in combating the spread of the coronavirus, and will continue to render excellent care and services to all our patients. The Hospital equally enjoins everyone to adhere to the required infection prevention and control measures prescribed by the WHO and the NCDC, such as physical distancing, regular hand washing, use of hand sanitizers & face masks.
