UCH completes first prostate HDR interstitial brachytherapy procedure in Nigeria.
The Department of Radiation Oncology, UCH Ibadan has completed its first prostate HDR interstitial brachytherapy procedure, the procedure which is the very first to be carried out in Nigeria ended at about 6.30pm yesterday at the Hospital’s Radiation Oncology Brachytherapy Suite.
The department disclosed yesterday that a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals comprising of the Head of Department, Prof. Adeniyi Adenipekun some resident doctors led by Dr. Sherif Folorunsho and Nurses led by the duo of Mrs. Musa and Matron Omolara Fagbenle, carried out the procedure.
Other healthcare professionals who made up the crew include a team of Physicists led by Dr. Abidemi Akínlàdé, Radiographers led by Mr. Matthew Akinwande and Urologists led by Dr. Augustine Takure.
Also, a support team of engineers, porters and health assistants were on ground to provide the necessary impetus for the groundbreaking procedure.
The Hospital’s Chief medical director, Prof. Jesse Otegbayo in a statement lauded the crew for driving innovation and improving the lives of patients.
